Welcome to YATC’s Frequently Asked Questions page. If you have any further questions, we would love to hear from you at youngamericanstheatre@gmail.com.

What is YATC?

The Young Americans’ Theatre Company (YATC) is the first of multiple completely youth-run theatre companies in Seattle. Our mission is to produce work that speaks to, inspires, and authentically provokes discussion within the young Seattle community.

How can I get involved with YATC?

If you are between the age of 14 and 21 and are passionate about theatre, we would love to hear from you! There are many ways to get involved with YATC including auditioning to act, working on the production team, becoming an intern, or directing or stage managing a show. More information about all of these opportunities is available in the Getting Involved page.

How do I audition for the YATC season?

We hold open auditions throughout the year. If you are cast in a YATC show, you will be expected to attend rehearsals as scheduled and all performances. More information will be available before our next season in the Getting Involved page!

When are rehearsals?

The rehearsal schedule depends on the show. When you audition you will be asked to give a list of conflicts and we are usually able to work around most commitments. Many of our actors have jobs, internships, or other commitments, and they are still able to participate fully. The creative team and cast will communicate before rehearsals start to create a rehearsal schedule that is convenient for everyone involved with the project. Typically, rehearsals approximately begin two months before a given show’s tech week, but each show is a little different!

How do I become a YATC director?

Becoming a YATC director is a wonderful opportunity for passionate, beginning-to-experienced youth directors to see their work come to life. Directing is a fantastic opportunity, but also a serious time commitment. To direct a show, you must be willing and able to schedule and take charge of all rehearsals and you must be willing to become deeply involved with many aspects of the management process behind your show. Keep an eye out on our social medias and our ‘Getting Involved’ page for director applications!

What does it cost to participate in YATC?

Any and all positions at YATC are completely free of charge, including acting and interning. You are only expected to provide your own transportation to rehearsals, meetings, etc. We want to make theatre accessible to as many people as possible, so it being free is a must!
